Painter & Illustrator
Andrew Bylo is a renowned illustrator based in the UK, and lives with his wife and cat on the Yorkshire coast in Whitby, a popular tourist destination and fishing port. He has been commissioned by clients worldwide for his fresh and dynamic approach to his subject, and has been drawing and painting for a living since 1981.
Like all illustrators, he loves a ‘free hand’ in the briefing process, as this always leads to the most creative results, but he is naturally very experienced with clients’ requirements and has that rare talent of being able to work to the tightest and most demanding brief, while still preserving the essential spontaneity which is the hallmark of his work.
His commercial work over the decades in editorial, publishing, advertising and corporate design includes clients such as: Dessin Untitled, Okidenkin, Nihonkoasonho, Wimbledon, Transport for London, P&O, Swan Hellenic, Volkswagen, Esquire, GQ, Vogue, Tatler, most of the UK national newspapers, The National Theatre, Virgin, Faber & Faber and many, many more.
His favourite recent job was working on a range of packaging for an organic flour mill, which involved staying in a charming cottage in rural England, his sole task being to get up every morning to paint amongst the rolling hills! The products are now on the shelves of many specialist shops in the UK.
Andrew's greatest strength is working directly from life, particularly reportage work. He is also frequently commissioned to paint portraits, and he finds this the most personally rewarding work. He can't remember a time when he wasn’t drawing, and his shelves are piling up with sketchbooks recording his life, dating way back to the 1970s.
